Chicago

A family city break gets easier when you stop treating the map as a checklist. Choose a base that works for the places you most want to see, decide on one main plan for each day, and keep the spaces between plans useful. Chicago can be the setting for exactly that sort of weekend.

Stay: look at the everyday journey

Before choosing a room, look at the route from your arrival point and the trips you will make each day. Confirm bed arrangements and any family room conditions directly. A convenient breakfast can be more valuable than an extra feature you never use.

Explore: put the day in a small area

Choose an indoor visit or outdoor outing as the anchor, then find lunch nearby. Fewer long transfers can leave more energy for the experience itself. Use current attraction and transit information when confirming the details.

Eat: have an early option

A restaurant that works well for adults later in the evening may feel very different with tired children. Think about timing, menus, and how easily you can get back to your room. Book when the meal is an important part of the trip.

For the second morning

Leave a little room to revisit a favourite spot instead of insisting on something new. There is pleasure in recognising a street, ordering breakfast without studying the map, and feeling briefly at home.
